Warm outlook encouraging as planting pace lags

Farmers disheartened by planting delays can take comfort in this summer’s warm weather outlook.

Wyffels Hybrids agronomy manager Eric Wilson says they’ve been looking at the impact Growing Degree Units have on corn development.

“Does timing of planting correlate to where that final yield falls in accordance with trendline? And what we’ve found is it doesn’t necessarily matter.”

He tells Brownfield there have been early planting dates that don’t yield that well and end-of-May planting dates with exceptional yields.
