A plume of tropical moisture interacting with a cold front will continue to spark heavy showers and local flooding from the eastern Gulf Coast region into southern New England. During the next 5 days, additional rainfall in the eastern U.S. could total 2 to 5 inches or more, with some of the highest amounts expected in western Florida and the southern Appalachians. Meanwhile, scattered showers will gradually end across the Corn Belt, but rain will return across the upper Midwest by week’s end.
