Excess moisture and cold temperatures continued to keep
Wisconsin farmers out of their fields last week. With reasonable daytime temps and overnight
lows down to the teens, much of the soil is still too wet and cold for
planting.
Some farmers in southern Wisconsin told USDA they were able
to seed oats and alfalfa on well-drained soils.
Northern Wisconsin is still struggling with frost, mud, and standing
water.
About one percent of Wisconsin’s oats are planted, and only
one percent of spring tillage is complete.
