Across the Corn Belt, rain has halted fieldwork in the Ohio Valley and the lower Great Lakes region. Meanwhile, mild, breezy, mostly dry weather prevails in the western Corn Belt, where farmers continue to plant oats and prepare fields for corn and soybean planting. By April 7, producers had planted nearly one-third of their intended oat acreage in Iowa and Nebraska—32 and 31 percent, respectively—compared with just 7% in Ohio.
On the Plains, mild, dry weather continues to promote fieldwork, pasture growth, and winter wheat development.
