The yield estimate from the first day of the Hard Winter Wheat Tour through Kansas and surrounding states came in at 38 bushels per acre.
Dave Green with the Wheat Quality Council says that’s down five bushels from last year, and may still be too high. He says it’s difficult to evaluate this year’s crop because it is so short.
“And not just short, it’s also behind,” Green says. “There’s no heading going on, and I was in field yesterday that hadn’t even started to joint yet.
