A wheat educator says delays in planting winter wheat this fall will impact yields.
Michigan State University Extension’s Dennis Pennington tells Brownfield seedings in late September and the beginning of October statistically have the highest production.
“When you plant late, you’ve automatically got lower yield potential,” he says.
Pennington says there’s not much time left in the season for farmers to plant. He is expecting the late harvests and wet conditions to decrease wheat acres and overall production next year.
