Wisconsin’s chicken and egg production fell last month. USDA officials say August egg production totaled 171 million eggs. That’s a 6% drop from July and 11% below August of 2020.
There were 5% fewer laying hens in August, with about 6.6 million birds. That’s also 13% fewer hens than August of 2020.
USDA says Wisconsin’s 2021 laying hen population peaked last winter at around 7.6 million birds but has fallen sharply since June.
