A northwest Wisconsin dairy farmer faces the prospect of harvesting none of his alfalfa this year. Dan Holub of Cadott says winterkill has wiped out nearly all 200 acres. “I don’t really see much I’ll be able to salvage. It’s going to have to be planted to corn.” From February on, he tells Brownfield his alfalfa endured frigid temperatures and freezing rain causing ice sheeting. In 56 years, Holub says he’s never seen losses like this.
