Young Nebraska farmer is excited to raise chickens for Costco

One of the big selling points for the Costco/Lincoln Premium Poultry chicken plant in Fremont, Nebraska was the opportunity it would provide for farmers—especially young farmers—to become contract growers for the operation.

Colten Schafersman jumped at the opportunity. The 25-year old, with the backing of his grandfather, has invested two-million dollars to build three pullet barns south of Hooper.  Schafersman says it’s an investment in the future of the family farm.

“We’ve been here for 130 years, give or take, and I really want my family to be here for another 130 years,” Schafersman says.
