14-year-old from Fort Pierre dies in a one-vehicle accident

A 14-year-old boy from rural Fort Pierre died in a one-vehicle accident on Saturday, May 27, at approximately 9:30 p.m. CT. The accident occurred in an off-road vehicle area in Stanley County, just south of the Oahe Dam, off of Highway 1806.

The boy was driving a Jeep when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed. He was transported by ambulance to Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre, where he died from his injuries.

The accident is still under investigation.

Other agencies responding to the scene were South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, Fort Pierre Volunteer Fire Department, Pierre Rescue Squad and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

The boy’s name has not been released pending notification of his family.
