The Aberdeen Police Department responded to a call about a suicidal individual who threatened to shoot law enforcement just before midnight on Saturday evening.
They arrived to find the person with a gun outside a residence, but after negotiations, the individual surrendered peacefully around 12:41 a.m.
The person was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm while intoxicated, and placed on a mental illness hold.
No damage was found in the area, but residents were asked to check their property.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office and South Dakota Highway Patrol provided assistance.
