As the auto industry undergoes a significant shift towards electric vehicles (EVs), auto repair training programs are facing the challenge of preparing technicians for this rapidly changing landscape.
Thor Green, an automotive technology instructor at Lake Area Technical College in Watertown, recognizes the need for technicians to handle both conventional and EVs.
To address this, the college has introduced a one-year optional EV training program alongside its standard two-year curriculum.
Although graduates still find opportunities in gas-powered car repair, Green believes that EV skills will become crucial for future employment, anticipating the industry’s evolution towards electric vehicles.
