Avera Health has announced plans to expand inpatient behavioral health care at facilities in Sioux Falls and Aberdeen.
In Sioux Falls, the Avera Behavioral Health Hospital will add 16 beds for adult care in the recently-completed Helmsley Behavioral Health Center, making it the fourth-largest hospital in the state.
The project, funded by federal appropriations, state funds, and the American Rescue Plan Act, is expected to be completed in spring 2025.
Meanwhile, Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen will create an 18-bed unit for adults, seniors, and adolescent crisis stabilization on the hospital’s fourth floor, with completion anticipated in fall 2024, funded by a state grant, ARPA funds, and a generous donation from Dacotah Bank.
