Avera Health has announced it will discontinue its partnership with Humana Medicare Advantage at the end of the year, citing ongoing issues that negatively affect patient care. The organization has informed its patients with Humana coverage, encouraging them to choose a new plan during the upcoming Medicare open enrollment period from October 15 to December 7, 2024.
Stacey Lenker, Vice President of Payer Strategies at Avera Health, expressed that the decision was difficult but necessary for the well-being of patients and providers. Despite multiple attempts to address concerns with Humana, Avera has continued to experience significant challenges.
This announcement follows a similar decision by Sanford Health, which also terminated its relationship with Humana, citing delays in care, scheduling barriers, and coverage denials that created financial stress for patients.
