Body of Missing Yankton Man Found in Missouri River

On Sunday (June 2), the Yankton County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of Phillip Snoozy, a 22-year-old Yankton resident who had been reported missing last month.

Around 4 p.m., a Nebraska boater alerted authorities after discovering a deceased person along the South Dakota shoreline of the Missouri River. The Sheriff’s Office responded promptly, finding the body approximately a quarter mile east of the James River’s mouth.

Emergency responders successfully recovered and secured the body, which was identified as Phillip Snoozy. Snoozy had gone missing on May 24, and his belongings were found on the riverbank. The investigation into his death remains ongoing.

Multiple agencies assisted in the recovery, including the National Park Service, Yankton County Emergency Management, Yankton County EMS, Yankton County Coroner’s Office, Yankton Search & Rescue, and the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks.
