New DNA technology has brought a major development in a 36-year-old cold case, identifying 24-year-old Jerry Mikkelson as the victim of a 1987 murder.
Mikkelson’s body was discovered on a Forest Service road in Colorado, near the Wyoming border.
Recent efforts, including the exhumation of Mikkelson’s remains, yielded crucial DNA samples and the detection of a titanium rod in his right femur.
It was confirmed that Mikkelson had undergone femur surgery six years prior to his death.
Authorities believe he was murdered in Wyoming and brought to Colorado.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials are seeking information from the public to help identify the perpetrator.
