Brookings Residents Arrested After 35 Animals Found in Hazardous Conditions

Three Brookings residents, Debra Schulte, Jordan Schulte, and Brandon Schulte, have been arrested and charged with 35 counts of animal cruelty, a class 6 felony, after 31 dogs and four cats were discovered in hazardous conditions at their residence.

The Brookings Police Department executed a search warrant following a welfare check request due to concerns about the animals’ living conditions and foul odors emanating from the property.

The animals were safely removed and provided with follow-up care and placement by local humane societies and veterinary care providers.
