Castlewood Residents Approve $6 Million Bond for School Improvements After Tornado Damage

Castlewood residents voted Tuesday in favor of a $6 million bond with 60% approval, 315 Yes votes vs. 210 No votes, to fund school improvements following extensive damage caused by a tornado in May 2022.

The tornado damaged the school’s stage, gymnasium, cafeteria, kitchen, elementary classrooms, and locker rooms.

Despite initial rejection of the bond proposal in March, residents have now given their approval as the school district’s insurance covered $5.6 million for repairs and $2 million for a new roof.

The funds will be used to make additional and expanded classrooms, expand the cafeteria, and create an additional gym space.
