
MITCHELL, S.D. — The city of Mitchell is reminding residents and visitors of parking restrictions and street closures ahead of the Corn Palace Festival, which runs Wednesday, Aug. 26, through Sunday, Aug. 30.
Parking restrictions are in effect in several downtown lots and streets to assist with the safety and operation of the event.
No parking is allowed through noon Monday, Aug. 31, in the City Hall east parking lot and the east Disco parking lot.
Additional lots will have no parking from 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, through 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31. Those include the City Hall west parking lot, ACT Theatre parking lot, the city lot between Goodyear and TMA, the lot directly north of Bradley’s Pub & Grille, the east side of the Slumberland parking lot and the Corn Palace Plaza parking lot, where additional handicap-accessible spaces will be available.
No parking is allowed from 3 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, through 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, on North Main Street from Fifth Avenue to halfway between Eighth and Ninth avenues. Restrictions also apply to the half blocks west of Main Street on Sixth, Seventh and Eighth avenues, Seventh Avenue east of Main Street to Lawler Street, and Lawler Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues.
A consumption permit has also been approved for portions of the festival area. The permitted area includes Main Street from Fifth to Seventh avenues, Sixth Avenue from Main Street to the alley west of Main Street, the Bradley’s Pub & Grille parking lot and Corn Palace Plaza.
Officials are asking the public to follow all parking restrictions and posted closures throughout the festival.
The Corn Palace Festival is scheduled for Wednesday through Sunday in downtown Mitchell.
