Numerous emergency crews from various cities in eastern Nebraska rescued three people who were trapped in an elevator on Wednesday evening.
The incident took place at the Ash Grove Cement Company in Louisville, Nebraska, prompting the Plattsmouth Volunteer Fire Department to be dispatched for assistance alongside the Louisville Volunteer Fire Department.
The elevator, situated five stories high, lacked air conditioning, and the trapped individuals had endured approximately two hours in this challenging situation.
The Plattsmouth crews promptly responded to the call, deploying their aerial, special operations unit, pickup, and EMS, while also requesting mutual aid from the Papillion fire department.
Upon reaching the scene, the rescue teams equipped themselves with necessary gear and climbed several flights of stairs, despite the darkness and extreme heat.
Upon reaching the elevator, they set up a rope retrieval system, allowing two rescuers to descend 20 feet to the roof of the elevator. Employing this method, they successfully rescued all three trapped individuals, pulling them up to safety.
According to the Plattsmouth Volunteer Fire Department, all three people are expected to make a full recovery, thanks to the swift and well-coordinated efforts of the emergency crews.
