Davison County’s most vulnerable children need court-appointed advocates

First Circuit CASA urgently calls upon local community members to become CASA volunteer advocates.

While more than 20 children in Davison County currently have a volunteer advocating on their behalf in court, several children in foster care still need an advocate.

CASA works closely with the courts, attorneys, and the Department of Social Services to recruit, train, and support volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect.

Through their advocacy, judges can make well-informed decisions for each child in the 1st Judicial Circuit.

“We aim to increase awareness of how we serve the most vulnerable children in Aurora, Brule, Buffalo, Charles Mix, Davison, Douglas, Hanson, Hutchinson, and McCook counties. Our goal is to find enough volunteers to serve all abused and neglected children in foster care in our communities,” said Yaquelin Delval, Community Outreach Director.

Having a CASA volunteer advocate by their side is invaluable for these children. Many of them have experienced trauma and have been moved from one home to another.

CASA provides an advocate who supports the children every step of the way, offering hope and building resilience. Advocates give their assigned children a voice and ensure that their wishes and needs are not overlooked.

“The number of abused and neglected children is increasing, and we need more volunteers to meet this growing need,” said Jackie Horton, CASA Executive Director.
