A single-vehicle crash occurred near Rapid City, South Dakota, on Friday afternoon, prompting an investigation by the South Dakota Highway Patrol. The incident took place at the Box Elder exit, about a mile east of Rapid City.
Authorities report that a 2016 Kia Sorento was traveling east on I-90 and began to exit towards Box Elder when it veered off the road and crashed into a small creek.
The driver of the vehicle, an 80-year-old male, was transported to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The passenger, a 75-year-old female, sustained serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Both individuals were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Currently, only preliminary information has been released, and the names of the individuals involved have not been disclosed pending notification of their family members.
