A 2012 Freightliner Semi leaked 200 gallons of diesel fuel on Tuesday evening in Brookings County.
The incident, which occurred near mile marker 133 on I-29 at 7:24 p.m., was caused by a detached driveshaft that punctured both saddle fuel tanks as the semi was traveling southbound.
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Brookings Fire Department, and Brookings County Emergency Management responded promptly to contain the spill.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
