Driver Killed Last Week in Head-On Collision East of Letcher Identified

The identity of the individual who lost their life in an accident last Wednesday evening near Letcher has been disclosed.

The Department of Public Safety has reported that the fatal incident occurred when a 2019 Hyundai Sonata was traveling in the westbound direction on 241st St. Simultaneously, a 2005 Peterbilt semi-truck, towing a flatbed trailer, was heading eastbound on the same road.

The Sonata veered across the center line, resulting in a collision with the semi-truck. Jason Mathew Price, a 46-year-old resident of Letcher and the driver of the Sonata, succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident and passed away at the crash site.

The 19-year-old driver of the semi-truck, Carson Fahey of Mitchell, sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with South Dakota’s Highway Patrol at the helm of the inquiry.
