Recent widespread rains have significantly eased drought conditions across South Dakota, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor report.
The portion of the state classified under moderate drought has dropped from 100% earlier this year to 33%, while severe drought coverage decreased from 35% last month to under 5%.
Despite these improvements, most of the state remains abnormally dry, with the southwestern region experiencing the worst conditions.
The Drought Monitor emphasizes broad regional trends, noting local variations may exist.
Overall, the outlook reflects a positive shift from earlier, more severe dryness.
