The Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to continue sales of E15 beginning June 1st means drivers can choose corn ethanol blends all summer long. In response and support of this decision, the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council has launched a contest giving away three $500 E15 gas gift cards. Individuals 14 and older can enter the contest online at www.ethaknow.org.
According to SDCUC President Chad Blindauer, “We are pleased with the decision to continue sales of E15 gas this summer and want to highlight the benefits of this fuel. This decision is also great for South Dakota corn farmers who are working hard to reduce our dependence on foreign energy and families who are working with increasingly tight budgets.”
E15 gas has been approved for over a decade for vehicles produced after 2000 which accounts for 96 percent of the vehicles on the road today. It’s proven to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 46% when compared to non-ethanol blends of gas. E15 is also labelled as UNL88 at the pump and saved consumers 16 cents per gallon on average last summer.
