Ellsworth Air Force Base B-1B Lancer Crashes During Training Mission, All Crew Eject Safely

A B-1B Lancer assigned to Ellsworth Air Force Base near Rapid City crashed at 5:50 p.m. Thursday while attempting to land, according to a news release from the Air Force.

All four crew members on the training mission ejected safely, the release said. board of officers will investigate the accident; no further information was immediately available.

B-1s are long-range bombers that were initially developed in the 1970s. The planes will eventually be replaced by the B-21 Raider, which is under development for the Air Force by Northrop Grumman and is expected to begin arriving at Ellsworth sometime this decade.
