Family Planning Services Clinic in Mobridge to End

Earlier this month, patients in Mobridge were informed that family planning services would no longer be available.

Initially, the Department of Health stated that clinics in Burke, Lemmon, and Mobridge would be closing. However, on Friday night, the Department of Health clarified that while family planning services would end, the clinics themselves would remain open.

The clinics in question offered family planning services and other tests, including rapid HIV testing, with fees based on a sliding scale according to income.

Patients in Mobridge were advised to seek family planning care at either Eagle Butte or Aberdeen clinics, which could be up to 100 miles away from Mobridge.

A spokesperson for the Department of Health explained that the decision was made as part of an ongoing analysis and evaluation of service needs and their impact.

The changes are scheduled to take effect on August 1.
