A tragic incident unfolded in southeast South Dakota as an explosion at a residence near Humboldt resulted in one fatality and left two others injured.
The explosion, which subsequently led to a fire, occurred on a Wednesday morning.
According to the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office, three individuals were inside the home when the incident transpired. One man died of his injuries, while a man and a woman were hospitalized, with the full extent of their injuries yet to be disclosed.
The precise cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
Captain Josh Phillips, of the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office, reported that a passerby witnessed the explosion, initiating a prompt response from first responders.
The explosion led to a fire within the residence, and the individuals inside were treated on-site before being airlifted to a local hospital.
Multiple agencies, including Sioux Falls Fire and Rescue, Colton Fire and Rescue, Hartford Area Fire and Rescue, Humboldt Fire, Minnehaha County Emergency Management, and Game, Fish, and Parks, collaborated with the Sheriff’s Office in managing the incident.
