Fatal Home Explosion in Fort Pierre Possibly Linked to Gas Leak

A preliminary update from the Stanley County Sheriff’s Office sheds light on the tragic home explosion that occurred on May 24th, 2023, southeast of Fort Pierre, resulting in the loss of three lives.

The update, obtained on August 16, 2023, by KELO, suggests that a potential gas leak, specifically liquified petroleum (LP) gas, might be responsible for the incident.

According to the update, it is believed that the explosion was triggered by the migration of LP gas into the basement of the residence.

Investigations have revealed that the damaged components of the LP gas delivery system are currently undergoing lab examination, with further analysis pending.

While the cause of ignition remains unknown, the explosion has been ruled as accidental.
