Fatal Shooting in Downtown Sioux Falls Leads to Arrest for Second-Degree Murder

Sioux Falls Police responded to a downtown Sioux Falls apartment in the early morning hours this past Saturday.

Upon arrival, they discovered a man shot multiple times in the torso in the apartment building’s hallway.

Despite rendering aid, the victim, identified as 28-year-old Richard Sowers, succumbed to his injuries after undergoing emergency surgery.

The suspect, 38-year-old Edward Brinkley, was arrested for Second-Degree Murder and firearm possession charges.

Brinkley was arrested without incident on Monday evening and is held on a $1 million bond.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities looking into the relationship between the victim and the suspect.
