Feeding South Dakota Seeks State Support After Federal Funding Cuts

Feeding South Dakota is requesting financial assistance from the state after losing $2.5 million in federal funding due to budget cuts backed by the White House.

CEO Lori Dykstra emphasized the nonprofit’s urgent need for either state funding or help securing food from the USDA.

Although traditionally privately funded, the organization runs several federal nutrition programs on the state’s behalf.

Dykstra plans to appeal to lawmakers during an interim appropriations committee meeting, stressing that the funding request is a temporary response to the abrupt loss of federal aid.
