Former Pierre Daycare Provider Pleads Not Guilty to Child Abuse-Related Charges

Former Pierre daycare provider, Brandi Jo Barringer, has pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanors related to child abuse allegations at her in-home daycare.

Barringer faces charges of Contributing to the Abuse, Neglect, or Delinquency of a Child for her alleged actions or omissions between January 2020 and May 2022.

The charges also accuse her of contributing to abuse through the actions or omissions of the child’s parent, guardian, or custodian.

The daycare in question is now closed.

The case gained attention when Facebook posts in August 2022 accused Barringer of negligence, leading to viral allegations of child abuse at her facility.

Barringer’s next court appearance is scheduled for November 15, 2023, and she could face a maximum penalty of one year in county jail, a $2,000 fine, or both, as per South Dakota’s Class 1 Misdemeanor laws.

Notably, private, in-home daycare providers in South Dakota are not required to be licensed, certified, or inspected by authorities.
