Former Watertown teacher sentenced to 10 years in prison for rape of 15-year-old student

Jordan Bakken, a former Watertown teacher and coach, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for raping a 15-year-old student during an overnight tournament in Brookings.

Bakken, who has no prior criminal history, apologized to the victim, community, and his family.

The judge deemed Bakken’s actions unacceptable and sentenced him to 15 years in prison.

The case sends a strong message that crimes against children will not be tolerated.

Bakken pleaded guilty to one count of rape earlier this year, and as part of the plea deal, prosecutors in both Brookings and Codington Counties will be unable to file any additional charges against him.
