Fugitive Escapes Police by Swimming Across Missouri River, Later Apprehended in Nebraska

A man with an active warrant in Yankton County managed to evade police by swimming across the Missouri River.

The Yankton Police Department recognized the man, Robert Travis Reid Jr., and a female companion with active warrants near 2nd and Walnut Street in Yankton.

When approached by officers, they fled on foot, with Reid swimming towards the Nebraska shoreline.

A search operation involving Yankton County Search and Rescue, Game Fish and Parks, and National Park Rangers ensued but was temporarily called off until the next morning.

Surprisingly, Reid was spotted along Highway 81 in South Yankton, Nebraska, in only his boxers and was subsequently taken into custody by the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office without incident.

The status of the female companion remains unreported.
