Korisa Haak, a mother from the Howard School District, is voicing safety concerns over her kindergartener being picked up and dropped off by a school bus along busy Highway 34.
Haak believes the highway location is dangerous, citing a fatality in Wessington Springs last winter.
She has requested the school district consider using her private driveway for pick-ups, but the superintendent, Stephen Vigliotti, has declined, stating that the district’s resources are limited and buses are trained to safely manage student transportation.
Haak remains uneasy, worried about speeding drivers and visibility issues, and currently drives her child to and from school.
