35-year-old Billie Jean Red Owl from Kyle, South Dakota, has agreed to a plea deal with the U.S. Attorney’s office in a case where she was charged with murdering her less than three-month-old daughter through dehydration in 2020.
Under the deal, she will admit to felony child abuse, and the first-degree murder charge will be dropped.
Red Owl had refused to seek medical attention for her baby, who exhibited severe signs of dehydration.
She tested positive for meth and other drugs a day after her baby’s death.
When sentenced, Red Owl faces a maximum of 15 years in federal prison.
