Lawmakers Look to Alleviate County Cash Crunch

South Dakota lawmakers are back at work this week, looking for ways to help solve budget issues for county governments.

They’re focusing on covering the costs of state mandated services that counties have to provide.

Lake County Commission Administrative officer Shelly Gust says that’s a great first step.

Counties have tight limits on how much they can raise property taxes each year.

The legislative committee working on the problem will make recommendations to the full legislature later this year.
