A transient man in Sioux Falls, Skyler Glenn Bluebird, was arrested after smashing a vehicle’s windows with a hammer when the driver refused to give him money.
The incident occurred on Thursday at 8th Street and Main Avenue when Bluebird, who was panhandling, approached the vehicle.
After the driver declined to offer money, Bluebird attacked the car, breaking several windows and throwing the hammer into the vehicle.
The driver chased Bluebird and contacted police, who later apprehended him.
No injuries were reported, though authorities suspect Bluebird was under the influence of drugs at the time.
Sioux Falls Police Public Information Officer Sam Clemens emphasized donating to nonprofits rather than panhandlers to avoid encouraging such behaviors.
Bluebird has been charged with aggravated assault and intentional damage to property.
