Man Confronted by Online Group in Hanson County Commits Suicide Amid Child Pornography Allegations

The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the Hanson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an incident in which Donald Letcher, 60, took his own life after being confronted by an online group called ‘Predator Poachers’ about alleged child pornography possession.

Following the group’s contact with law enforcement, a deputy spoke to Letcher, who then barricaded himself and shot himself.

Letcher, who had previous legal issues including a 1995 conviction for sexual contact with a child and a 2022 incident of running over a girl while drunk, later died at a hospital.

The South Dakota DCI is investigating the allegations against him.
