Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Vehicular Battery in Sixth Felony Case

25-year-old Collin Lee Hansen has received a 20-year sentence in the South Dakota State Penitentiary for two counts of vehicular battery, marking his sixth felony charge.

On January 20, 2023, Hansen, under the influence of Delta-9-THC, methamphetamine, and fentanyl, attempted to elude police at 59 miles per hour, running a red light and crashing into another car at 10th Street and Sycamore Avenue.

The collision left Shannon Uken with a punctured lung and broken bones, and her boyfriend, Nathan, with two brain bleeds and a broken vertebrae.

Hansen’s passengers, including a parole absconder, were also injured.

Despite Hansen’s attempt to flee, he was apprehended by the Sioux Falls Police Department.

In addition to the 20-year sentence, Hansen will have 10 more years suspended on the two counts.
