Man Sentenced to Life Without Parole in Lincoln County Woman’s Manslaughter Case

Jackson Phillips has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after pleading guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Randi Gerlach, in Lincoln County.

Originally facing murder, manslaughter, and aggravated assault charges, Phillips admitted to manslaughter and received the life sentence.

The incident occurred in February 2022 when Phillips strangled Gerlach during a domestic dispute at his family home.

He then attempted to conceal her body in the basement, but it was discovered a week later.

Phillips’ incarceration began immediately at the South Dakota State Penitentiary.

Gerlach, who was in a domestic relationship with Phillips, left behind a 2-year-old son.
