Man Shot by Law Enforcement After Brandishing Gun, FBI Investigates

A man who threatened suicide-by-cop was shot by law enforcement after fleeing from officers and repeatedly brandishing a gun.

The incident happened on Tuesday in Bullhead, South Dakota. Officers from the Corson County Sheriff’s Office and Bureau of Indian Affairs Police Department responded to a report of a man who had threatened to kill himself and law enforcement at a residence in Watauga, South Dakota.

The man left the residence in a vehicle before officers arrived. Officers found the vehicle in Bullhead and attempted to take the man into custody. However, the man brandished a firearm and fled the scene.

A short time later, the man was stopped in the parking lot of the Bullhead District Building. He again brandished a firearm, and law enforcement officers shot him once.

The man was taken to the Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, North Dakota, where he remains in serious condition.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
