20-year-old Gage Thatcher Stevenson of Moorhead, Minnesota, has pleaded guilty to Second Degree Manslaughter in connection with the death of Dawn Meyer, a 43-year-old woman from Watertown.
The incident occurred on September 17, 2019, when Stevenson was driving on US Highway 212 in Watertown.
According to reports, Stevenson intentionally crossed the center line near 19th Street and collided head-on with the vehicle driven by Dawn Meyer. Meyer did not survive the crash and lost her life as a result. At the time of the incident, Stevenson was still a juvenile and had sustained serious injuries himself.
As Stevenson has now pleaded guilty to Second Degree Manslaughter, he is awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled for August 30.
In the state of Minnesota, Second Degree Manslaughter is considered a serious offense. If convicted, Stevenson could face a sentence of up to 10 years in the State Penitentiary and a fine of up to $20,000. However, the final sentence will ultimately be determined by the judge presiding over the case, who will consider all relevant factors and legal guidelines.
