A 41-year-old Minnesota woman died in the Minnehaha County Jail on Wednesday June 7. The woman was found unresponsive in her cell during a routine check at 2 pm. Jail staff and first responders attempted to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman had been arrested earlier that day on charges of driving while impaired, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and ingesting a substance to become intoxicated. She was booked into the jail at 9:50 am.
The cause of death has not yet been determined. The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the death. No foul play is suspected.
The woman’s name has not been released pending notification of her family.
