The body of Colleen Monfore, a 68-year-old woman from South Dakota who went missing in Indonesia, is believed to have been found inside a shark’s stomach.
Monfore was on a diving trip near Pulau Reong island when she was swept away by strong currents on September 26. After eight days of search efforts, authorities called off the search on October 3.
A fisherman in Timor-Leste discovered human remains in the shark he caught, which were later identified as likely belonging to Monfore.
Officials noted that the corpse was still in a wetsuit and appeared to be that of a Western woman.
Muhammad Saleh Goro, an official overseeing marine park management, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing to confirm the identity of the remains.
