Missing Springfield juvenile recovered from Missouri River

SPRINGFIELD, S.D. — The Bon Homme County Sheriff’s Office says a missing juvenile from Springfield has been recovered from the Missouri River.

Authorities received a report of a missing juvenile on the evening of July 14. During a joint investigation by the Bon Homme County Sheriff’s Office and Springfield Police Department, officials determined the juvenile likely entered the Missouri River near the Springfield Marina.

The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department and the Springfield Fire Department assisted in the search. SDGFP used side-scan sonar to scan the riverbed and captured an image believed to be a person. The Yankton County Search and Rescue dive team was then called in to assist.

At approximately 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, dive team members recovered the body of the missing juvenile from the Missouri River near the fast-water boat launch at the Springfield Marina.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the juvenile’s name is not being released at this time. The sheriff’s office says there is no suspected foul play and no concern for community safety.
