Tornadoes ripped across parts of central Mississippi and northwest Alabama last week causing significant damage to the Mississippi cities of Rolling Fork and Silver City. The Rolling Fork tornado was rated an E-F Four with winds of 170 miles an hour.
National Weather Service meteorologists like Kelly Serr says extreme storms like this are something they will investigate to learn more and make better forecasts.
The storms killed 26 people between March 25th and 26th in Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee. The Rolling Fork/Silver City E-F Four was preliminary marked at three-quarters of a mile wide and nearly 60 miles in length.
