The Mitchell City Council has unanimously approved a tax grant incentive program aimed at enticing an undisclosed retail business to the city’s north side.
The program, presented by City Administrator Stephanie Ellwein, requires a minimum increase in sales of $2 million, offering a grant limited to 2% of documented annual sales for up to five years.
The initiative, inspired by similar programs in other cities, comes in response to a request from a large retail chain interested in establishing a presence in Mitchell, though the specific retailer remains unnamed.
