Mitchell, S.D. – The Mitchell City Council is set to meet Thursday, March 5, at 8 a.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 612 N. Main Street.
The agenda includes a reconsideration of the bid award for the Tornado Shelter Rebid Project, a critical step for ensuring the city’s public safety infrastructure is up to date. Council members will also review a referral petition related to the transfer and redevelopment agreement for the East 1st Avenue Project, a key development initiative aimed at revitalizing the area.
On Monday, March 2, the council narrowly rejected a previous proposal to build a new shelter and restroom facility at the campground due to funding concerns. The project would have combined emergency shelter space with updated restrooms and showers.
Mayor Jordan Hanson has suggested the project could return in a scaled-back form in future budgets.
Public participation is encouraged during the meeting, with a comment period allowing each speaker up to three minutes. No official actions will be taken during this time.
The meeting will conclude with adjournment. Individuals needing special assistance to participate in the meeting are asked to contact City Hall at (605) 995-8420 at least 24 hours in advance.
Residents are urged to attend and stay informed on important decisions affecting city development and safety projects.
